Background
The Teacher Bank Project is a civic tech initiative by the Restored Heart Foundation designed to connect qualified teachers and volunteers with underserved schools in Nigeria. The app bridges the gap by providing a digital space for educators and schools to discover, connect, and collaborate — improving access to quality education where it’s needed most.
Challenge
Design a simple, trust-driven platform for three user types with different needs, ensuring accessibility, easy onboarding, and smooth communication — even in low-connectivity areas.
Deliverable
A fully designed, mobile-first platform that enables teachers, volunteers, and schools to connect seamlessly, with intuitive user flows, rich profile creation, and built-in messaging to support collaboration and reduce barriers to engagement.
Research
Understanding the Users
We spoke to:
Teachers seeking meaningful work but frustrated by lack of access.
School heads in rural areas who depend on referrals and luck to find teachers.
Volunteers who want to give back but don’t know how to connect with schools.

We mapped flows for Teachers, Schools, and Volunteers.
The Solution
Intuitive Multi-Role Onboarding
Separate signup flows were designed for teachers, volunteers, and schools, with step-by-step guidance and friendly language to make onboarding simple and accessible.
Rich Profiles with Real Context
Teachers and volunteers can create detailed profiles, upload documents, and get verified; giving schools the confidence to make informed decisions.
Smart Matching and Browsing
Users can filter profiles by subject, state, language, or availability, making it easy for schools to discover and connect with the right educators.
In-App Messaging System
Built-in chat allows real-time communication between teachers and schools, helping both parties discuss opportunities directly within the app.
Capacity Building & Training Access
Students and Teachers can access free training resources and certifications through partner organisations, supporting continuous learning and professional growth.
Results & Impact
Over 1,000+ users onboarded in the first month of soft launch.
Early partner organisations reported increased interest from qualified educators.
Teachers are beginning to build professional visibility beyond their immediate region.
What’s Next / Future Improvements
The next key feature we plan to introduce is real-time analytics to help sellers track listing performance and buyer engagement. We’re also exploring a tool that enables sellers to easily generate a CIM (Confidential Information Memorandum) for their business.
